Travel Diary To Manali – Sonia Thomas

It was all smooth and calm till we reached Chandigarh from Cochin by 3 pm. Without a halt we boarded the Innova and we were supposed to have dinner at the resort. We had the nightmare of a road journey which took us to the resort around 3 am. Ever since we started the ascend the vehicle was rocking and rolling and we ended up with aching bellies. The roads were so battered and in some areas there were no roads at all, reason being construction of the mammoth hydro-electric project and the previous weeks’ landslides.

Once we reached Manali everything was bright and blissful. The view of snow-covered mountains from the balcony of the resort was so breathtaking. Dwelling in the lap of the great Himalayas, the stunning hill station Kullu lies between the impressive peaks of the Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar ranges.

This dazzling hill station is surrounded by massive snowclad mountains and thick pinewood forests with the beautiful Beas River flowing throughout the region as its magnificent centerpiece.

Solang Valley or Snow Point is a must visit place where the entire valley is covered by snow intertwined with the tall pine trees. All sorts of adventure activities like skiing, paragliding etc. are available. After the dayout in the snowy surroundings it was a relief to end up in the warmth of the room heater at the resort.

The second day at Manali was all sightseeing and we visited the Hadimba or Dhungri Temple, dedicated to Hidimba, wife of the Pandava prince, Bheema. The temple is noted for its four-storeyed pagoda and exquisite wooden carvings. Visited the Manu Maharishi Temple, dedicated to sage Manu, Vashistha Kund, Tibetan Monastery, which houses several images of Lord Buddha. And in the evening spent shopping at Mall Road.

The next day after breakfast we drove to Shimla via Kullu. We spent some time at Kullu and proceeded to Shimla and checked into Royal Regency, Shimla which is a beautiful property.

Next morning we proceeded to Kufri which was a wonderful experience. The horse ride & adventure activities at the top were immemorable. We enjoyed the walk through thick cedar woods to Mahasu Peak for an amazing view the mighty Himalayas. It was a good experience walking through the Mall in the evening.

We stayed overnight at the resort and after breakfast checked out of the resort and proceeded to Chandigarh airport. Thank God, we had a pleasant journey back. We reached back Cochin around 10 pm leaving memories of a trip that will linger in our minds for a long time.
